National Black Female Photographers Day Walk, Greensboro NC

Saturday, September 10th 2016,  yesterday was the Fifth Annual Black Female Photographers Walk. Greensboro, NC had it's first walk this year hosted by photographer Toni Shaw. This year would also be my first Black Female Photographers (BFP) walk.  The BFP event is geared towards bringing professional, amateur, and advanced photographers together to document their city, network, collaborate together, and to learn from one another. Our Captain Toni Shaw invited a good amount of models, that traveled a good distance to pose for us throughout the walk. Along the way I captured a few details of downtown Greensboro. The National Folk Festival is in town throughout today. We had a nice day to shoot, heat and humidity pushed aside.  Updates will be added throughout the week, so please check back.

Documenting The South

North Caroina is such a beautiful state in terms of scenery and God's country.  Most of my childhood was spent in North Carolina so there's a lot of history here for me.  My goal is to photograph and document several cities and counties within the state focusing on black people and culture. It should be fun.

The Deer Hunter

Welcome to the Summer Outdoor blog.  Summer outdoor events, games, wildlife, photos, etc.

Living in this part of the Eastern Region, North Carolina, you tend to see all kinds of wildlife.   I've taken many photos of different species of birds, a few rabbits, groundhogs, and some turtles.  I've always wanted to take pictures of deer because they are so beautiful, I do see them around quite a bit running through the woods but once I stumble upon them they tend to run off, so I've yet to get the shot that I always wanted.  About a few weeks ago I was cruising down one of the local streets doing about 30-35 mph, looking around at the scenery and singing a tune that was on the radio.  Within a few seconds I immediately put the pressure on the brakes to stop.  Out of my left peripheral vision I saw this deer that was about to cross my car.  He or/she stopped when I stopped, we both look at each other for about 10-15 seconds or longer.   I wasn't about to move the car so I immediately rumbled for my iPhone to get some shots.  The deer stayed at that same position and I snapped about six or seven photos.

The deer wasn't sure if he or/she should cross my path or go another way.  After I snapped the pictures I just looked at the deer.  The deer moved a few steps ahead in a forward position but still on the same side of the street, the deer looked back at me and then took off.  At that point, I snapped another picture of the deer in flight.  Wow, we both were startled from the initial approach.  I'm happy the deer crossed over safely while I was able to take a shot that I've always wanted.  This was a beautiful moment.  Peace, enjoy your summer.

This is when we first startled each other.
